billboard
we just passed a billboard for hospice and with my monty python look on everything i viewed the message in a totally different way that i am sure wasn’t intended–
i have always been impressed with hospice and have seen their work and the benefits provided– however, the message on their billboard seemed somewhat lacking–
the message . . . “expert care at the end of your life”
my mind immediately thinks, “that’s right, we screwed you all through life, denied you expert care because of your race, religion, sexual preference, and economic status– but now at the very end is when you are finally going to get that expert care– just wait a second while they hitch up that morphine drip–

the bridge

when kathleen and i first moved to the lane there was an old rickety telephone pole bridge going across the creek at one of the highest points– although everyone worried that it would get washed away i moved it to a lower section and rebuilt it with new boards, lattice and sides–
i remember my father being very concerned about my safety when i was moving the poles– i, being a younger man with less experience basically told him to relax as i had everything under control– in retrospect, things could have ended in disaster but luckily didn’t–
after ten years the bridge is now in need of repairs and i took the sides off this weekend and now have to face replacing the boards– the telephone poles will stay right where they are this time–

bird house
both of my stepsons are awesome and a stepfather couldn’t ask for more– lord knows that they have put up with enough of my crazies over the course of the past decade and more– here is a bird house that jordan made years ago when he still lived at home– kathleen and i have been saying for years that we would love to put it up but have been worried about it being exposed to rain– i took the “altar” that my mother used when she married kathleen and i, and have given it a new function as a holder underneath the car-port of the barn for the bird house– now we just need to wait and see who moves in and also make sure that the wasps don’t–
