might as well jump

john is on cnn talking right now about what should be done about the bailout–  god is he boring–  i can just see someone ready to jump off of a bridge because of the financial crisis and john comes on the radio–  “i remember my grandfather . . . .”  jesus christ man, we know you’re a war hero, you must know something about politics after being involved for over a century, but you are the most boring person to listen to–  and do you really expect us to believe that you aren’t personally set when the market crashes?  you don’t give a damn about americans–

ah, but the strawberries! that’s where i had them. they laughed at me and made jokes but i proved beyond the shadow of a doubt ……. where the hell are my marbles ……

further thoughts of annie–

when we first got annie it was from a breeder who lived on lake erie–  here is a picture of her when she was only several weeks old which the breeder sent to us–  it was a long drive and we brought her back in a small cardboard box which kathleen kept on her lap all the way home–

over the years i have had many dogs, but none including abbey (which this blog and the place within which i live are named for) come close to the loyalty, friendliness and patience which this dog has shared with our family–  she has been accepting of all and has had no favorites among any of us– 

general care of the dog was always a blessing when compared to other dogs i have dealt with–  she willingly took pills when needed as though a hand shoved to the back of her throat was a treat–  she was always a pleasure to bath and would have gotten into the tub on her own if her legs were a little longer– 

i like to think that bassetts in general have a wonderful disposition and i would recommend them to anyone looking for a “family dog”–  but i don’t believe that kathleen and i can ever find a replacement for annie–  it also would be an injustice to any dog to expect them to fill the emptiness that she has left in our world–

anniversary o’boogie

kathleen and i lost our very good friend anniversary o’boogie today–  she was acting normal last night and seemed okay when put out by josh this morning–  i heard her barking and looked out to make sure she had enough water and she did and then went about making the morning coffee–  i looked out to check on her about a half an hour later and she was laying beside one of the trees–  she didn’t look quite right and when i saw that there were flies on her that she wasn’t shaking off i ran out to discover the worst–  we are completely mystified as to why she died except that it appears that she either had a heart attack,  choked on something or perhaps ate a bee which in turn caused her tongue to turn purple and swell up–  she had a bad habit of playing with bumble bees and perhaps that is what occurred–  however, we have definitely lost a good friend and one that cannot be replaced–

just cause he’s black

i read this comment after linking in from msn and thought it was excellent–

 

Just cause He’s Black

A white man asked his black friend, ‘Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he’s black’? The black man responded by saying, why not? Hell, in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause they are black, passed over for promotions just because they are black, considered to be criminals just cause they are black, and there are going to be thousands of you who will not be voting for him just cause he’s black! However, you do not seem to have a problem with that! This country was built with the sweat and whip on the slaves black back, and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren’t even considered to be people, Where we weren’t allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote, so yes, I’m going to vote for him! But it’s not just because he’s black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal, Because he sees, understands, and knows, he can achieve, withstand, and do anything just because he’s black!

during the republican convention (which i did watch a good portion of) senator alfonse d’amato was talking with one of our local reporters and the reporter mentioned the statement that john mccain had voted with and supported bush 90% of the time–  senator d’amato went off on a tirade obviously irritated by the statement which he strongly denied as untrue–  i guess the truth hurts–
