out and about/ brights

kathleen and i went to a shrine in the area tonight as we were out for a drive and it was interesting to see a mix between christianity and native americans–  i have always attempted to be respectful of christianity as one of many religions yet i had a particularly hard time with one of the outdoor displays on the grounds–

150

there was a sign on the wall that merely stated

in the last hour, 150 babies died from abortion.

on the ground were 150 pink and blue flags to symbolize the babies–

akb jc forgives

a perfect example of one of my main complaints about “christians”

so often they can’t even begin to see how un-christian they really are–  this display partially ruined what was a nice visit to a religious site–  one more reason why i support the worldview of the brights

obama’s pick

i received a form letter from moveon.org today concerning an ap article that had been written by a ron fournier who is now the ap’s  new washington dc bureau chief–  congratulations ron, good to hear it–  grasp, pump pump pump, break–

i agreed with the general premise that as a reader i expect all ap articles to be non-biased and sticking to the facts–  “just the facts ma’am”, yes that’s the way we like our ap reports–  no, this most definitely is not where we expect opinions either left nor right  . . .  cold clinical and conclusive with no partisanship shown–  and because i agreed with this basic premise (really, no opinion pieces by the ap? wow, i didn’t know that) i also agreed to write my local paper (which i read rarely/ ok twice) and share the concerns of moveon.org–   sure, i’ll sign up–  i just love signing a petition–  gimme a pen, i’m your boy–  at the end of this post is what i sent–

but first–  you know, i, uh, didn’t totally disagree with what moveon.org stated that ron fournier wrote–  (warning: a lot of pop-ups at the link) personally i question obama’s pick too–  i thought caroline kennedy would have been a fine choice and when i saw michael moore write the same thought i realized that i wasn’t the only who thought so–  in my opinion obama needed and needs (and yeah okay, perhaps has) a candidate for vp that can stir americans up the same way that obama has throughout his campaign–  man i sure hope biden has a cattle prod–

can biden do this–  personally i like (hell, let’s show some class) senator joseph r biden jr and whenever i have heard him speak i have thought that i would have no trouble voting for him–  and i won’t as long as he’s the vp–  obama still has my vote–  but biden???  isn’t this a little anti-climatic here???  when i think of senator biden i think suit–  like so many other senators he comes across as ho-hum, yup nice suit–  i’m not sure about his hair though, he should perhaps grow it a little longer so it is touching his shoulders, or cut it a little closer to the head–  this half-way stuff just kills me–)  i (bald long hair) should talk–

the news is also now reporting that senator biden is going to be somewhat of a political brawler for the obama campaign–  well, that could be fun huh?  maybe just for shits and grins he’ll give leibermann a thumping and while he’s at it–  maybe a good quick bitch-slapping for the little shrub–

senator biden for vp???  and then i think–  hell, wait a second here . . .  do we really like most vp’s anyway???  let’s review–  hubert humphrey? spiro agnew? gerald ford? nelson rockefeller? walter mondale? george the first?  dan quayle? okay, gore was a good one but then we got saddled with satan himself–  maybe an attack dog is a good idea–  joe, sic em!!!

following is what i sent to my local paper–

quoting from moveon.org–

“This letter is to request that the editors of our local paper stand up for us local readers.

As a local reader, my trust in political stories written by the Associated Press is about to be gone because of the AP’s new Washington D.C. Bureau Chief, Ron Fournier. He consistently writes articles smearing Democrats and favoring John McCain.
The latest was Fournier’s article on Saturday, August 23: “Biden pick shows lack of confidence.” It was full of Republican talking points presented as fact, and was a far cry from unbiased journalism.
Another Fournier story began, “Poor Hillary. After trying to save her sinking candidacy with awkward turns of flattery and sarcasm, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton resorted to a new tactic in Tuesday night’s debate: self-pity.”

Fournier is obviously a McCain supporter. It was recently confirmed that he talked to the McCain campaign about being a senior political adviser in 2007. And, an email was recently uncovered sent by Fournier to Karl Rove telling him, “Keep up the fight.”

If anything, Fournier has a special obligation to show the public his support for McCain won’t bias his journalism.

But a recent study found that Fournier didn’t write a single negative story against Republicans during their primary–except one belittling Mitt Romney for beating John McCain in Michigan.
I am asking the editors to contact the national AP immediately. Let them know that local readers are losing faith in the 160-year-old AP because of its recent bias, and that Ron Fourniers articles smearing Democrats and favoring McCain have got to stop.”

EVE OF DESTRUCTION (Original lyrics)

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

i just received the following letter from the obama campaign–  yes, it’s a form letter so i really don’t feel that special and yes i probably normally would have deleted it anyway because he’s already got my vote–  but you know . . .  even if i sign up to “be the first to know” i’m probably going to a) be at work  b) be sleeping  or c) sitting on the pot and i won’t hear the damn phone go off anyway–  seriously do you really think all that we do is use cell phones and browse on computers all day???  hell, by the time i am done posting this the decision will probably already be made, everyone else will already know and i’ll see it on the news when i choke down a cup of coffee in the morning–

sometimes i find myself standing in the bathroom singing to myself in the mirror–  i guess, just like joe, we all are conducting our own orchestra–  and it probably beats standing in the barn staring at the beams and rafters–
