what does george know how to do?

i was just clicking through the channels and i stumbled across laura bush on one of the c-span channels– i watched her for a couple of minutes out of pure boredom– but, you know . . . wow, she presents her self better then george does– she was talking about things she’s done nationally and internationally and i couldn’t help but think, now wouldn’t that be a kick in the head if she ran for president in 2008– hillary with bill on one side and laura with george on the other– scary isn’t it . . .

and george . . . ? well lately he’s been on the road doing the one thing that he probably wasn’t a failure at– making a lot of noise, cheering the team on– i wonder what the A stood for . . . ?

that’s our man!!! what a dick!!! can we use these tactics on him when we impeach his ass for screwing us all???

“Dick Cheney, US vice-president, has endorsed the use of “water boarding” for terror suspects and confirmed that the controversial interrogation technique was used on Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the senior al-Qaeda operative now being held at Guantánamo Bay.” this story can be found at msnbc

tinker street . . .

tinker street . . . and kathleen and i paddle down the merry (was it the) withywindle coming through the bearsville routes getting happily (at first) lost along the way– i mean, check it out . . . it’s only a short country ride and a quick bob over, down and around the mountain and slip slap, you sneak in the back, . . and you are there– tinker street . . . during these times of fascist conservatism and religious bigotry it is comforting to know that this oasis in thought and in time is still there–

there are others as well, saratoga springs to the east, yet this it is somewhat lacking in spirit and the commercialism there drains what can be found seeking refuge in the corners of ones mind . . . newport is pretty much the same, and if not for the gulls and the spray from the ocean probably would not be on the list at all– p’town, ah . . . like it’s cousin ogunquit to the north is to distant, though kathleen and i will have to make the trek one of these days to walk the shores and sort through trinkets that have shared a million eyes through the passage of time–

tinker street . . . a haven at the foothills of the mountains in which we make our home . . . and the possibility of a trip in the middle of winter hangs closely in the air– tinker street . . . in the midst of autumn we walk the streets like children in from the cold gathered round a fire– kathleen loves the shops and i lean toward the spirituality which clings to every doorway and weathered stair . . . and sometimes i wait outside listening to musicians . . . i know he was famous once upon a time yet i couldn’t place his face so i just sat listening thankful for the music which filtered through . . . free of charge, yet not a handout– you could almost say it was freely shared . . . down on tinker street . . . .

forever more (a song for the troops . . . )

forever more (a song for the troops . . .)

have you seen them
have you heard them
have you seen them waiting for you
across the water

take a hand now
hold it tightly
trust your hearts now
my sons and daughters

there are so many religious ways
they will try to show you
but what’s the point
if their hearts are not open
there are so many steps that they will place before you
but you need only see the golden path
that is for you alone

can you see them
can you hear them
will you walk to them now
(they’re waiting)
across the water

have you been climbing in the peaks above the forests
looking out over the trees and screaming de colores?
are you are sailing in a ship across the ocean
searching for the perfect storm
jonah in leviathan

do you feel love
do you need love
(all you need is love)
it’s like a faucet

that can be opened up
the love will come out pouring
take your share and pass the cup
and let it keep on flowing
forever more
(don’t turn it off)
forever more
(don’t turn it off)
forever more
(please don’t turn it off)
forever more

a kinder, gentler nation . . .

kathleen and i are fortunate to live 30 miles from the city in an area that real estate agents have to have you sign an agreement that documents that you are aware of the farms in the area and that there may be odors from these farms that some would find offensive– we still smile when we think of this contingent– yee-haw!!! a home in the country–

being a farm area, there has been large amounts of land that were in play and for years we dreaded a wal-mart distribution center or something of this sort moving in, in the surrounding area– it was with pleasure that we learned several years ago that there was a large amish community that had bought a lot of the land in the area and we have watched them come in, building houses and barns and succeeding where more modern folk would have failed– the horse-drawn buggys that they drive slow down the truckers in the area and we smile at this– they cut the hay with tools drawn by horses and instead of little rectangular bales or the big dinosaur droppings there are haystacks that surround the area– they sell some of their goods at a local store and you can purchase from some of them directly if you are bold enough to stop and speak to them– they are friendly folk that always have a smile and a wave when you pass– they are gentle folk that have made our community into an area that would please a hobbit–

it is with this view that we have watched the tragedy that has taken place in pennsylvania this week– unspeakable, incomprehensible, just evil spreading its grief with an ever-reaching grasp across our nation with no regards for the victims which it crosses in its path– our prayers and thoughts are with the amish–
